Arktika

Millions of waterfowl migrate through the eastern Gulf of Finland to their breeding grounds on the Arctic tundra every year in May. The naturally beautiful Virolahti on the eastern coast offers nature enthusiasts the best places in Europe to observe this spectacular mass migration. It attracts a large group of nature enthusiasts from both domestic and international locations to the shores of the Eastern Gulf of Finland every May. Come and marvel at this incredible natural spectacle!

The base for the event is the Arktika Center at the Leerviikki recreational area, which provides all the necessary basic services daily: the Arktika exhibition, bird guides on duty, an information point, and a café. During weekends in Leerviikki, you can also have breakfast and lunch, listen to interesting presentations, and shop at sales points. In previous years, the program has included traditional sailing trips on the Eastern Gulf of Finland and a narrative forest concert. In the Klamila harbor, you can enjoy delicacies at Bistro & Bar Potkuri.

The maritime landscapes of Virolahti bathed in spring light and its pure nature enchant the Arktika crowd every year anew. Timeless rural life, fresh forest paths, and serene views of rolling fields and meadows linger in the memory, providing just the right start to the anticipation of the summer season.

Let the sea breeze and the shimmer on the horizon put you in the holiday mood in the charming archipelago of Virolahti. Rent a cottage by the sea or from an island and enjoy the beautiful, clean archipelago, its sunsets and sunrises – and flocks of birds flying overhead in an uninterrupted ribbon.
