Isopuisto Park

Isopuisto Park is an English-style landscaped park influenced by the terrain, natural trees, and pathways formed by users. Adjacent to the church lies a striking flowerbed showcasing over 50 perennial species, along with thousands of spring bulbs and azaleas in early summer.

As the largest constructed park on Kotkansaari Island, spanning approximately 8 hectares, Isopuisto was established around the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, completed in 1801, making it Kotka’s oldest building. Behind the church, a few graves from the Svensksund fortress city era remain.

During the late 1700s, Grand Duke Konstantin participated in laying the church’s foundation stone and planted the first spruce trees during his visit, marking the inception of Kotka’s park history.
