Sunila Aalto Homes Event

On the last weekend of August, Kotka’s Sunila offers a rare treat for those interested in design and architecture as Aino and Alvar Aalto’s most extensive design work opens up for you to experience. You have the opportunity to peek into numerous private homes in this unique maritime residential area adorned with distinctive white residential buildings, majestic pine trees, and expansive green spaces.

The worker’s paradise, Sunila’s residential area, was completed in the 1930s and was showcased at world exhibitions in Paris and New York. Culturally valuable and unique, Sunila is proposed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, attracting admirers from Asia and beyond. At the Aalto Homes event, you can delve deeper into the architect couple’s body of work by visiting homes that preserve the Aalto tradition.

During the Sunila Aalto Homes 2024 event on August 24th-25th, 2024, from 11 am to 5 pm, approximately 18 unique private residences will open their doors to visitors.
